Recycled Table

I have been looking for one of these tables for a while, i love the bone structure and double shelves. I found this one at the Goodwill back home for $15. I saw it and passed it by, but when i got back to Chatty i couldn't stop thinking about it. So my sweet mother picked it up for me. I used Stain and paint that i already had so this project only cost me as much as the table.
Here is the before and after pic.
Hubs sanded it down for me.

I painted it with the light blue (Mountain Air-Sherwin Williams) leftover from out kitchen ceiling and laundry room.
After it dried i painted it with the dark turqouise from our kitchen. I wasn't being to picky with my painting cause i wanted a little of the light blue to show through and i knew i was going to sand it down.
Then i took the electric sander to it and sanded the whole thing down.
Finally i stained it (with some stain the hubs had leftover from a job) and wiped it off.
This is what it looked like when i wiped the stain off.
and the after...

I love how it turned out. I have never tried finishing a piece off with stain but it deepens the color and makes it look so much richer!

My other sister makes the best pottery EVER. Kinda wish i was that talented!

So my lil sis is taking a pottery class at school and she has made some incredible bowls, cups, vases etc. Sure beats the vase i made in art 101 in high school. I'll see if i can get a pic of that to update later :)
She made me this super cute bowl and mug set. i. love. it. The bowl sits on our new table and holds all our keys. and the mug is on my jewelry crates and it holds my rings.
Here are some up close pics.
The colors in the these are gorgeous, they are sage green with some tan and autumn. So pretty!!

I'll have my sis send me some more pics of her stuff. Seriously it is sooo good! She is working on a bowl with a peacock feather on the side, that is 3D. SO COOL!

Happy as a bug in a rug...minus the bug

Since we moved in to our little cabin we have been wanting a rug to complete our living room, and provide a soft place for robby to lay down and watch t.v. There were a few things we were looking for in a rug. Not necessarily in this order.
1. comfort
2. cheap
3. large (to fill our awkward living room setup)
4. Either a stripes or solid pattern since our curtains and pillows were pretty bold.

So Sunday night we brought home this pretty little thing from Target.
It was comfortable and cheap but it was too small (5x8) and didn't match the rest of the room. Yes i had to get it in our living room to actually figure that last part out :)

So Monday i returned the Target rug and continued my search at World MarketI also had a $10 off coupon. SCORE! you know i LoVe the coupons! So when i found this little guy i knew right away it would be perfect, the only problem was it wasn't very comfortable But when it came down to this jute rug or a more comfortable one for $150 more beans, the hubs said he would forgo comfort for a better price.
This one was large 6x9, which fit perfectly, it was striped, and only $150, down from $200!
Buddy likes it too he enjoys sitting on it and starring at his toy fire hydrant.
We love the green, blue and brown stripes, and i figured if we ever decided we wanted/could afford a more comfortable rug this rug matches our master bedroom perfectly.

Not so free project #3

So this project isn't exactly FREE but it's close!! i splurged a little on the knobs cause everything else was free and the knobs match SO WELL!
Remember free project #1? Well i made this coat rack for our stairway out of that same pallet. My sweet hubs sawed, by hand may i add, half the pallet off, and the top off the pallet off. Then he cut the boards on the top and bottom to fit and hammered them on. Then he drilled the holes for my class blue and green knobs.
Here it is without the coats.
Remember the glass insulator i got at the garage sale for $2, i added it to my green and blue decor.
And all those bottles you see are from my friend Allison who spotted them in a guys trash! He had crates of old bottles that he was throwing away. So she scooped them up asked him if she could have them. He said "Sure! and i have more in my garage if you'd like those too!" You know she jumped at that opportunity then she kindly shared with me :)

and here it is in full use!
The glass knobs were $5 each. I know i usually would NEVER pay that much, especially without a coupon, but that is all i had to spend and they went so perfectly with the blue in the wood.
So the total for this project was $15!

My sister is an AMAZING cook! Kinda wish i had her mad skills.

At family vacation this year my sister made some super delicious hummus! She got the recipe off allrecipes.com, so i decided to try it for myself.
Yep that's her taking a picture of me taking a a picture of her, and everyone else is just checkin out the neighbor landing his helicopter in the front yard... no biggie...
Here is what you will need:

  • 1 (15 ounce) can garbanzo beans, drained
  • 1 (4 ounce) jar roasted red peppers
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons tahini
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

Mix it all up.
In an electric blender or food processor, puree the chickpeas, red peppers, lemon juice, tahini, garlic, cumin, cayenne, and salt. Process, using long pulses, until the mixture is fairly smooth, and slightly fluffy. Make sure to scrape the mixture off the sides of the food processor or blender in between pulses. Transfer to a serving bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. (The hummus can be made up to 3 days ahead and refrigerated. Return to room temperature before serving.)
So good! Well i haven't tried mine yet, but once it sits in the fridge for an hour i will. Hopefully it will be good :/

Finally a piece of furniture I don't want to paint!

That table that i found at the Garage Sale, it's now a side table to our new couches in the Living Room. It was supposed to go in the guest room as a bedside table. But it was a little small so we moved a few things around. The little table from the EYS is now on our porch off our bedroom, which was in much need of some furniture! Anyway back to the table, it's perfect as a side table and the wood is perfect in our Cabin.

I'm still working on making those gas cans into a light so for now they are just chillin on the floor.
BTW that orange candle on the table is from Walmart. It's called Mulled Spice and it is the best smelling candle i have ever had. It smells just like FALL! They sell little ones for $1 so you can get one and just try it out to make sure you like it. But i know you will :)

Garage Sale 10.16.10

So Saturday Hubs and i went climbing and on our way home we stopped by a garage sale.
Here's what i found.
Table $10
Gas cans $2.50
Powerline Insulator $2
Total=$17
I think i'm going to make the large gas can into a light.
We saw these insulators everywhere at the endless yard sale. But i had only seen turquoise and clear ones so i thought this green was was neat.
I'll be back with a post on what i did with all these goodies :) Stay tuned!
