My funny Valentine, you make me smile.

I am a bit late decorating for Valentines day but i dove into it a few nights ago after i read Joon's post on her conversation centerpiece! This is my first year decorating for Valentines day, i may have gone a little overboard but i only spent $7. The candy hearts were $5 and i the wire for the button flowers were $2.
In honor of Valentines day i thought i'd post this little song for you to listen to while you read :)

The only decorations i had,i bought last year, were the placemats and plates. The place mats are from Ross for 4 for $4, and the small heart plates were $4 each (I bought 4) at TJ Maxx. Everything else i shopped around my house for or made.

I made the banner with my cricut, hemp and some old book pages.

I saw this over at Ordy and Joon, her's was much cutter with real flowers :)
But walmart wanted $5 for a small bouquet of carnations! Didn't they used to go for like $1 a piece!?

Have you decorated for Valentines day yet? Did you splurge on some cute decorations or go the homemade route?

Happy as a bug in a rug...minus the bug

Since we moved in to our little cabin we have been wanting a rug to complete our living room, and provide a soft place for robby to lay down and watch t.v. There were a few things we were looking for in a rug. Not necessarily in this order.
1. comfort
2. cheap
3. large (to fill our awkward living room setup)
4. Either a stripes or solid pattern since our curtains and pillows were pretty bold.

So Sunday night we brought home this pretty little thing from Target.
It was comfortable and cheap but it was too small (5x8) and didn't match the rest of the room. Yes i had to get it in our living room to actually figure that last part out :)

So Monday i returned the Target rug and continued my search at World Market, I also had a $10 off coupon. SCORE! you know i LoVe the coupons! So when i found this little guy i knew right away it would be perfect, the only problem was it wasn't very comfortable But when it came down to this jute rug or a more comfortable one for $150 more beans, the hubs said he would forgo comfort for a better price.
This one was large 6x9, which fit perfectly, it was striped, and only $150, down from $200!
Buddy likes it too he enjoys sitting on it and starring at his toy fire hydrant.
We love the green, blue and brown stripes, and i figured if we ever decided we wanted/could afford a more comfortable rug this rug matches our master bedroom perfectly.

Not so free project #3

So this project isn't exactly FREE but it's close!! i splurged a little on the knobs cause everything else was free and the knobs match SO WELL!
Remember free project #1? Well i made this coat rack for our stairway out of that same pallet. My sweet hubs sawed, by hand may i add, half the pallet off, and the top off the pallet off. Then he cut the boards on the top and bottom to fit and hammered them on. Then he drilled the holes for my class blue and green knobs.
Here it is without the coats.
Remember the glass insulator i got at the garage sale for $2, i added it to my green and blue decor.
And all those bottles you see are from my friend Allison who spotted them in a guys trash! He had crates of old bottles that he was throwing away. So she scooped them up asked him if she could have them. He said "Sure! and i have more in my garage if you'd like those too!" You know she jumped at that opportunity then she kindly shared with me :)

and here it is in full use!
The glass knobs were $5 each. I know i usually would NEVER pay that much, especially without a coupon, but that is all i had to spend and they went so perfectly with the blue in the wood.
So the total for this project was $15!

Finally a piece of furniture I don't want to paint!

That table that i found at the Garage Sale, it's now a side table to our new couches in the Living Room. It was supposed to go in the guest room as a bedside table. But it was a little small so we moved a few things around. The little table from the EYS is now on our porch off our bedroom, which was in much need of some furniture! Anyway back to the table, it's perfect as a side table and the wood is perfect in our Cabin.

I'm still working on making those gas cans into a light so for now they are just chillin on the floor.
BTW that orange candle on the table is from Walmart. It's called Mulled Spice and it is the best smelling candle i have ever had. It smells just like FALL! They sell little ones for $1 so you can get one and just try it out to make sure you like it. But i know you will :)

Thrift Store Stool Makeover

Remember this ugly stool i found at the Thrift Store for $3?
Well i primed it and painted it.
I removed the cushion off the seat, with this crazy bed bug thing going around i decided to buy a new one.
So i was left with a piece of wood.
I bought foam at Hobby Lobby for $1.66 (with my 40% off coupon and hubs 15% discount)
Then i ironed my green fabric. Which i got from JoAnn's for $6 a yard and still have half left over! I Layed it out on my ironing board with the foam and wood seat.
I pulled the fabric as tight as possible and stapled it down.
Then I folded down the corners and stapled them.
and WahLA!!
A new stool that is perfect next to our tub!
I sanded down the edges a bit.. as usual :)

So here is the project breakdown
Stool $3
Spray paint-$3
Foam $1.66
Fabric $3
Total=$10.66

Leaf Banner Tutorial

Hey guys i'm back with some more free decorations! This is the window before.
Sorry this pic is so blurry.
I got these leaves when hubs and i went hikng a few weeks ago. i stuck them in a book to flatten them out.
We went hiking up lookout point and had a beautiful view of Chatty!
I measured how long i wanted my banner to be. Then i laid my leaves out and put the ribbon on top of them. You could also use, hemp, string, or yarn.
I duct taped the leaves to the ribbon.
To attach it to the window i just rolled the duct tape to make it sticky on both sides.
There you go a free, recycled, fall banner!

I also used the white pillar i got at the thrift store last week on the mantle, holding the fabric pumpkin.

Antiquing we will go!

A few weeks ago, well maybe a few months ago. My mom, sis and i went to an antique shop called Olivia Morgan. We didn't walk out with anything but they had some really cool stuff. Thought i'd bring you along with me and show you what i WISH i could have brought home :)
I have been wanting one of these soap dispensers for a while but at the $50 price tag there was no way i could get it.
I also love this record player! I have my dad's old one but i love the look of this one. They have a similar one at target that plays records, cd's and has a radio.
Thought this shelf was pretty cute it was around $40.
And you KNOW i love me some pyrex dishes! These were $20 a piece!!
These old doors were super cute! I am looking for some to lean up against the wall behind our couch.
This bright colored corner piece would have been perfect in a kitchen to store dishes!
I loved the rustic look of this shelf. I think it was $50
I usually don't go for ornate pieces but this bench was beautiful! I tried to get my mom to get it for her foyer! It was $300 but i think it was 40% off.
Love this rustic bench too!
And some cute outdoor funiture.
This was a cute idea, they took an old shutter and made a cabinet out of it.
This HUGE window would have been awesome as a headboard!
Allison this is for you, cause i know how much you LOVE owls. Hootie Hoo!

That was my lovely trip to the Antique store. They had soo many cute things but not at my cheapo price :) I do love going to get ideas, like that cabinet made out of shutters. Maybe that will be my next project!
