Yay or Nay?

Hey guys, so i need your feedback! While parusing the thrift store today i came across this adorable fabric.
I scooped it up for .99 cents, planning on using it for the background of a dry erase board i am making. But when i got home and saw that it was a valance i realized it was too small for my frame. So i replaced my old valance, made out of napkins from world market,(shown below) with the new sunny yellow polka dot one.

Since i am used to my longer one i didn't know if the polka dot one was too short.

What do you think, do you like the old or new valance?

Look what i did with my thrifty finds...part 2

Hey guys, i have been fixing up some things... here they are
Basket from thrift store $1

perfect next to my bath tub.

See that frame on the far right
i spray painted it the same turquoise that i painted the basket, and painted the inside with chalkboard paint.
i am waiting to get a chalkboard paint pen but i haven't found one yet.
 pyrex :)
vintage straw holder
i love the open cabinets
These are the containers i found for .50 cents each.
I am working on organizing more kitchen cabinets so i can take more doors off.
I got this very large frame at the thrift store a few weeks back.
I had some white paint laying around the house.
i distressed the edges a little bit and of course...painted it with chalkboard paint. i'm tellin ya i love the stuff!!
So there ya have it, the rest of my finds and a few before and afters. This weekend i went home to help a friend with their nursery. And a few months ago i helped another friend with her nursery and haven't posted yet, so soon i will do a large post on Nursery makeovers.
Stay tuned!

Look what i did with my thrifty finds... part 1

Hey guys, i wanted to show you what i did with some of my goodies from last weekend.
The bike wheel on the left i put above our bench in the kitchen with some pictures in it.
WaLa :)
I have been trying to incorporate more "manly/stuff the hubs would like" into our decor. Since he loves mountain biking,   i knew exactly what i would do with it when i saw it at Estate of Confusion.
These little guys are in the process of being "made over."
But i found a perfect place for them.
I put pillows on them to cover up the UGLY outlets on the front of our fireplace, you can read all about that here.
So that is what i have done so far, i will be back with more pics of what i did with all the stuff i got last weekend!

Recycled soap dispenser

So i have been seeing these cute soap dispensers made out of jars everywhere. And wanted to make some of my own.
I was planning on making them out of the jars below.
But when i realized that the jar below (that was sitting on my window sill, pictured above) and the whatchamacallit on the right (i bought months ago at the thrift store to make a soap dispenser) FIT TOGETHER PERFECTLY!
So crazy... and perfect. i just poured the soap i already had into the jar and popped the whatchamacallit on top. It was just tight enough to not fall off when tipped upside down and not too tight that i couldn't get it off.
Then my husband drilled a hole in the top of one of my extra mason jars and i put the white watchamacallit (that came in the green disposable soap above) on the top of the mason jar.
and WA LA! My dish soap and hand soap beautifully displayed in cute jars for free!
I'm thinking about putting a black chalk board paint label on them but we'll see how it goes.

Baking Sheet Memo Board

I haven't posted in a while cause it has been crazy over here at the Gambrell Cabin. We have been working on some Christmas gifts that i can't wait to show you after Christmas. (Wouldn't want to ruin the surprise!)  This post is short and sweet but i just wanted to show you a cute memo board i made a few weeks ago.
By the way just call me butterfingers... in the past two days i've broken three things.  The top to one of my mason jars, an ornament, and one of my glass hurricanes.
Now on to today's craft, on my "Best Thrifting day Ever" post i forgot to mention a little cookie sheet i picked up for $2. I wanted a memo board for the kitchen to hold pictures and notes. So i put a couple magnets on the back of some of my many buttons and called it a day. Check it out. All i did was a put a small screw thru the middle to hang it on the wall and then covered the screw with a picture.

Not all baking sheets are magnetic so if you want to get one i'd suggest carrying around a magnet in your purse so you can try it out before you buy it.

Simple Fall Tablescape

Continuing with my theme of free/cheap fall decor. I put together a VERY simple fall table. I had everything except the pumpkins which only cost me $1.50 total.
They tray was from our wedding my very talented friend Linds made it for us. The table runner i think was on clearance at Pottery Barn? My mom gave it to me.
The Leaf bowl was the only fall decoration i bought last year. My mom got if for me at Khols and i had candle in it last year. I put some pinecones in it that i also bought last year. Why would i buy pinecones when they are free outside and you are all about free? you ask? Well last year one weekend while the hubs and i were climbing i decided to collect acorns. They were so pretty and i imagined filling vases with them. Well when i went back to them about a week later they had maggots in them. SICK! it was so gross i later found out you are supposed to freeze them to kill the little guys inside. anyway i'm not tryin that anymore i'll wait until they go 75% off after the holiday.
The blue ball mason jar i got at the endless yard sale for $2 and the candles inside it were $2 on clearance at tjmaxx or marshalls a few years ago.
I know it's super simple but that is how i have been feeling lately, i have been getting rid of EVERYTHING we do not use. And it feels so good! I have had so much fun decorating for fall with things around the house, hopefully i can do the same for Christmas.

Kitchen Table Before and After

My parents gave us this lovely kitchen table and chairs. It was dark green with a light wood top. We stained the top a few months ago. I have been wanting to paint the table and chairs white for a while and we finally got it done.

That's me in the background sanding away!

We took all the seats of the chairs and Robby took a paint sprayer to them out side.

I'm not sure what exactly he did, cause i rean to the store, but when i got back, Wala, 6 beautiful chairs!

We flipped the table upside down and painted the legs with a brush.

Here it is! all new and pretty!

We used Behr's paint and primer in one, the color is called Antique White. The paint is really thick since it has the primer in it but it wasn't too hard to work with.

We still need to put some tung oil on the top to finish it off.
