Fall Wreath

I wanted to spruce up my front door with a wreath. I bought one at the thrift store a few months back for $1.50. Since i'm trying to save all the money i can lately i looked for ribbon and fabric i already had.I used burlap that we had left over from the center pieces at our wedding and some ribbon i had left over from the bouquets in our wedding, the orange ribbon i had in my scrapbooking stuff.
The burlap comes in roles at Michaels for $3.99. From what i had left over i just cut them about 6-7 inch pieces and rolled them up to look like a flower. Then i stuck them in the wreath. I didn't even need to glue them down. Then i tied the orange and sheer ribbon inbetween them to fill in the gaps. I would have liked it to be a little fuller but that's all i had to work with :)
Here is the finished project.
Here is a picture of the process... i took me a while to figure out what exactly i was going to do!
Have you made any wreaths lately please share! I love getting new ideas!

Yard Sale!

This weekend we had a yard sale at our little Cabin. Hubs manned the goods on Friday and i worked on Saturday. Here are some lovely pics of him trying to sell our junk...
Hubs scaring the customers away...
No that is NOT his real hair. Thank Jesus...
The funny thing about our garage sale was the weeks leading up to it hubs kept saying..."i don't think we have enough stuff." And he kept trying to sell things we use so that we had more to sell, and i kept saying "trust me we have plenty, did you see all that stuff in the shed??" Our shed was half full of CRAP. When we started setting up i realized we didn't have much stuff... But after we got all the furniture out we had a lot more which was good. This picture was taken early Friday morning we hadn't gotten any of the furniture out yet.

After the garage sale i loaded everything we didn't sell into the fit and took it to Goodwill. I feel so good having all that stuff out of the house! A little fall purge if you will :)

Dry Erase Board Tutorial

So i thought this would be a cute idea to use as a menu board, or to do list. You can always change out the fabric for a completely different look.
For this project you will need;
A frame- from the thrift store would be the recycled and cheap way to go :)
Fabric- Walmart has these "quick cuts" fabric swatches they are size 18''x21'' so if you find a frame that size you can use one of those, they are only $1. Also, if your fabric is see through you may want to use a solid fabric behind it so you can see though it.
Dry Erase Marker
Adhesive- I used Aleene's Tacky Glue, but you could use a hot glue gun too.

First i layed out my fabric and put the picture that came in the frame behind it and started glueing the sides.

Glueing all the sides/edges.

Place the fabric covered picture back in the frame, behind the glass and you've got yourself a dry erase board! A black dry erase marker would have looked much better, but blue was the best i had.

Project break down

A frame- $1.50
Fabric- $1
Dry Erase Marker-already had
Adhesive- already had
Total $2.50

My dry erase board cost $2.50 because i already had some of the supplies but even if you had to buy everything this project wouldn't cost more than $10

Mums the word...

This weekend i broke out the fall decor. I decided to skip halloween and just decorate for fall, because it would save us money and as much money as i can save for christmas decorations the better :)
I started with the outside, I bought some mums for our front porch and after comparing prices i found a pretty good deal.
The first place i checked was Bi-Lo they had 8'' mums for 4.50 each.
Home Depot had smaller mums i think they were 6'' for 2.50 each, and 8'' mums for almost $7
Walmart had 8'' mum for $3.33!!! Best price so far!!

So here is what i left with.
3-8'' mums from Walmart for a little under $10.50
2-6'' mums from Home Depot for $5.50

Here are my 6'' mums in my hanging baskets
And the 8'' mums i planted in pots.

The pots i got from Hobby Lobby of course :) The pot was $2.99 + 50% off so they came out to $1.50, plus the hubs discount took off the tax! Total $4.50
The trays were $1.27 also 50% off so they came to about .65 cents! That's a total of $1.95
Total for the pots were $6.50
I also grabbed some potting soil from Home Depot for $2 i bougth Scotts topsoil.

So my total for outside fall mums was $24.50! Not to shabby considering you can plant the mums in the ground at the end of the season and they will grow again next year!

Fall is in the air!

This weekend besides slaving over a two day yard sale :) i did a little fall decorating.  The inside of my house i decorated for free. I found things around the house that were fall colors and put them together for some fall decoration. But outside i spent money on some beautiful fall mums! They are gorgeous and i took some time to find the best bargain! I also made a fall wreath with some ribbon and burlap i had left over from our wedding, and i used the wreath that i found in this post for $1.25.
Hopefully tonight, i will get the time to do a longer post with prices and more pictures.  But for now here is a little preview.
